Installing windows XP on iMac Aluminum 24.
First I'm going to start out by saying, THIS MAC IS BADASS! Intel T7700 (2.4 ghz core2 duo) 320gb hard drive has plenty of room for Windows. Used boot camp to install Windows XP, where it did not want to partition the space for windows, so I had to boot it off the Leopard cd, and do it manually gave it a 20 gb partition, then boot it up as usual and went back to boot camp, asked me for a windows cd, rebooted and from there on was pretty much a normal Windows Xp install. 20gb partition is pretty small only used it for windows itself and some small programs, but there is a 500gb external hard drive formatted NTFS that is attached to make up for space, this way OSX has 300gb and Windows has whatever is attached. Anyway, windows install went well, press the "option" button while booting to choose what os to boot to. Booted in to windows, inserted the Leopard CD, and installed the mac drivers for windows, really simple, everything worked, I didn't have to go hunting for drivers, did the Apple update to make sure the driers are up to date. Windows Xp runs very fast on this machine!
Replacing HD in Apple iBook
it was slooooooow, checked it with disk doctor, hd was shot. This
procedure is time consuming and i like to take photos of where the
screws go this way its easier to put together. This is not my first
ibook hd replacement, so it this was a quicker process then before.
While taking this one apart, I noticed that some of the screws were
missing therefore it was opened up before, but it all went well. I
wanted to use the Simpletech HD, but it was a SATA, not IDE, this one
uses the IDE type, just in luck had one on hand, slapped it in,
Installed OSX, all is good!
2.5 Inch Hard Drives not all IDE.
Pinifarnina 2.5 inch 160 Gig (on the left). I noticed that the new
portable hard drives are SATA based. On the right is an IDE. If you
are replacing a hard drive in your notebook computer, make sure you do
some research because you may end up sol. Most newer Laptops do use
SATA such as Macbooks, HP's etc.. but if you are looking to replace an
iBook, you will need to go looking for an IDE drive.
